A biker without their boots is like a day without sunshine. Whether they come just above your ankle or all the way up to your knees, boots are a must for bikers. But how do you pick the right pair for you?
Four Steps to Buying the Best Boots
Step number one: stick with a style that suits you. Don’t go with some crazy fad, but instead, a pair that suits your personality and your taste. Step two: remember that a brand name can be important when it comes to footwear. Harley Davidson (for example) might be expensive motorcycle boots, but it’s not just the name that makes them that way. You’ll probably have them for the rest of your life. Three: know what size shoe you take and consider the type of socks you’ll be wearing. And four: you will have to break your boots in. A friend of mine who wore the same size that I do sent her new Harley boots with me on a long distance trip so that I could break them in for her. I broke them in all right—I got caught in a rain storm which literally filled the boots with water.
Consider…
What type of riding will you be doing? As I discovered, if you’re going to ride long distances you never know what kind of whether you’ll encounter. Protection is probably the main reason behind the whole idea of
motorcycle boots, aside of course, from looking cool. Your shins, ankles and feet are extremely vulnerable in an accident. Protect them.
One super important thing to remember is this: no matter how cool the boots look… No matter how much closer they get your feet to being flat on the ground… Unless you’re carrying around an extra pair of footwear in your saddle bags, remember… you have to walk around in those boots for the rest of the day.
